GitHub user AeonLucid has discovered code referring to a “BuddyPokemon” in the latest Pokémon Go update. Much like how Pokémon could walk outside of their Poké Ball in Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver the buddy system is most likely designed to let players take their Pokémon for a walk and appear on the map next to them.
Further analysis done by users of The Silph Road on Reddit has determined the that players will obtain Candy for taking their Pokémon walking. The distance walked by your buddy is also measured as is a new section on the stats screen to record how much Candy each Pokémon has found for their trainer.
In related news, users digging through the code have also found within the code that mentions limiting the number of PokéStops a player can visit in a set period of time. Some users have pointed out this may just be a measure to stop players using bots from visiting thousands of PokéStops a day and warning users if they’re near the limit instead of just soft banning them.
