Patch notes say Pokémon Go won’t support rooted, jailbroken phones

Ninatic have updated the official Pokémon Go blog detailing the upcoming update, which will include the newly revealed Buddy Pokémon system, and have stated jailbroken and rooted mobile phones can no longer play the game.

The blog post says that the developers are still focused on “eliminating bots and scrapers from Pokémon GO” and that “rooted or jailbroken devices are not supported”.

Rooted Android phones and Jailbroken iPhones are phones that have had the OS modified by users who want greater control over what their device can do. This option isn’t supported by manufacturers, especially in the case of Apple, as it can cause security issues, but remains popular with users who want to use apps not available on their phone’s app store.

Other changes listed for version 0.37.0 on Android and 1.7.0 on iOS included the implementation of Pokémon Go Plus for Apple Watch, a bug causing eggs to hatch without the hatching animation and general performance improvements.

The update is expected to be live on all platforms in the next day or so.
