Pokémon Go release delayed in India by potential legal issues

The official release of Pokémon Go in India may have been delayed thanks in no small part to a public interest litigation (PIL) being filed in the Gujarat High Court over safety concerns. According to The Times of India the PIL cited a number of issues, including an incident in the city of Vadodara where two youth were apparently injured while playing the game.

Pokémon Go has already been playable unofficially by those willing to circumvent regional restrictions, but Reddit user tauyrty reported many players were cut off during a recent crackdown.

The International Business Times says Niantic and The Pokémon Company aim to launch the game in 200 countries, but no official word has been given on when Pokémon Go will be released in India or in a number of nearby Asian countries such as Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

India is widely considered one of the fastest growing economies in the world, rivaling China as one of the biggest growth markets to watch.
